Commotion as three-storey building collapses in Rivers state (photos)

The residents of Alakahia community in Obio-Akpor local government area of Rivers state, are in shock as a three-storey building collapse while they were asleep in the morning.

The building was reported to have collapsed along the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) road in Alakahia, around 6 a.m on Monday, May 1. However, people were home because the country was observing its annual Works Day holiday.

Legit.ng gathered that about three workers at the construction site, who were reportedly in the building when the unfortunate incident happened.

However, one of those who witnessed the incident Pastor Obinna Amefule, revealed that: “It was around 6 a.m this morning (Monday) that we heard a heavy noise and we rushed out of the room to see what happened. We were surprised to see that the building had collapsed.”

Another terrified witness identified as, Solomon Erim disclosed that he blames the government based on the inferior building materials used.

He said: “The fact about the incident that took place beats my imagination. As a resident who saw what happened, I am still in shock. It is painful that a man will spend money to erect a building of this magnitude and when the job is almost done, the whole building will collapse.”
