Woman accused of witchcraft by husband's family cries out
A Nigerian woman resident in Canada, Mrs Adenike Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is facing the toughest ordeal of her life, following threats by the Nigerian Police to issue her a warrant of arrest over allegations of witchcraft by her husband's family.
The Kekere-Ekun family of Lagos Island, based on consultation with the family's oracle and idol popularly called Ogun (god of iron), has pointedly accused the woman of using witchcraft to cause a series of illness and misfortunes in her husband’s family in Lagos ostensibly via spiritual remote control.
The woman had relocated abroad since September 2015 to escape the wrath of the extended family who are known to be very influential. Impeccable family sources hinted that sometimes in September last year, the family's oracle insisted that Mrs Kekere-Ekun be invited all the way from Canada to come and perform a traditional ritual or sacrifice in order to avert a chain of impending misfortunes within the Kekere-Ekun family.
Such rituals were to include bathing in an open river in Lagos and inflicting multiple incisions on her body parts, it was further learnt. However, the woman was said to have declined to have anything to do with any traditional rituals, based on her faith as a Christian and a member of a Pentecostal church in Ontario, Canada.
In a strange twist, sources confirmed that another member of the Family, was recently said to have suddenly developed some strange signs of insanity, an omen which the family feared was a result of the woman's disobedience and reluctance to appease the god worshipped by the family.

Her refusal to honour their invitation compelled the family to mount powerful pressures on the police to assist the family in inviting the woman to Nigeria. In a letter dated March 18, 2016, ACP Anderson A. Bankole, on behalf of the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau Annex, Lagos, written to Mrs Kekere-Ekun, she was invited for questioning unfailingly on Friday 15th April, 2016.
The letter referenced CR:3000/FCID/INT/ANNEX/VOL.38/277 stated: "This Bureau is conducting an undercover enquiry into a case of accusation of witchcraft in which there is a reasonable ground to invite you for a routine interview. You are requested to attend an interview with the Commissioner of Police at the address below..."
Sources confirmed that the Police may soon declare the woman wanted and issue a warrant of arrest against her if she fails to appear for questioning.
The practice of sorcery, witchcraft or juju is frowned upon in Yoruba land as well as other tribes in Nigeria. There has been widespread violence, beatings and inhumane treatment and sometimes lynching those that are suspected of using witchcraft or juju.
