- The wahala that arose after Donald Trump became president is what has led the United States secret service to scale up security for Mr. Trump’s family
- In fact, his 10-year-old son Barron was recently spotted surrounded by stern looking secret service officials backed by a boat armed with a machine gun
- All this increased security is costing the U.S a whopping $2 million per day
Barron Trump, the 10-year-old son of President-elect Donald Trump and wife Melania was recently spotted playing with a group of children at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida where his family was spending Thanksgiving.
As reported by DailyMail, Barron was being watched closely by several men who appeared to be Secret Service agents as he mingled with other children on the lawn at the back of his dad's luxury estate.
At one point, Barron was seen waving and watching on as a coast guard boat sailed past him as he stood on the ocean wall. The boat had a guard stationed at the front of the vessel armed with a massive machine gun as it patrolled back and forth in front of where Barron was playing.
They men were part of a contingent of 150 security personnel assigned to watch over the Trump family as they spent their first post-election holiday at the vacation retreat last week, according to NBC News. When the Trump family arrived at Palm Beach last week, roads were closed off to make room for the 45-vehicle convoy that included limousines, vans, and a fire engine.
When Trump gets sworn in January, he is expected to have more than 900 Secret Service agents and personnel protecting him and his family in both Washington D.C. and his hometown in New York City.
His 17 family members will be protected, including Melania and Barron and his four adult children, three of their respective partners and eight grandchildren.
Security at the moment to protect the President-elect is estimated to be costing $2 million per day (N629 million, official rate). External security being handled by police in New York outside Trump Tower is costing an estimated $1 million a day and is expected to increase given Melania's decision to stay in Manhattan with Barron until the finishes the school year.
Imagine if this was Nigeria and that amount of money was being spent to protect the president daily.
