Kidnapper of Emefiele's wife caught after opening N3m shop with his share of the ransom

Months after the kidnapping and eventual release of the wife of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)'s governor, Mrs Margaret Emefiele, some of the kidnappers were arrested after ransom was paid.

Barely two months after Mrs Emefiele was released after a ransom of N15million was reportedly paid, one of the masterminds behind the kidnap has been caught in Minna, Niger state.

Umar Abubakar opened a provisions store with money gotten from CBN governor's wife's ransom

The culprit identified as Umar Abubakar, was caught in a provisions store which he had reportedly opened with the N3million which he got as his share of the ransom.

Abubakar a.k.a Kiriwa, who is reportedly the 10th member of the gang, was caught on December 9, 2016. According to a statement released by the police spokesman Donald Awunah, here's what happened:

“Abubakar led detectives to two houses and three plots of land he purchased with his share of the ransom. He confessed that he used N3m, part of the ransom, to open a provision shop in Minna, Niger State which he was running with his wife. The original papers of the houses and plots of land have been recovered and the shop also sealed.”
