A poor boy from Siaya passed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) but his family cannot afford his school fees for high school.

14-year-old Joshua Otieno was one of the best performers at the 2016 KCPE results released on December 1, 2016, by Education CS Fred Matiang'i.

Otieno scored 386 marks from Kakamega Primary School and was selected to join St. Anthony High School, Kitale, Kenya.

Unfortunately, he could not get fees to join school. His parents had separated. His father remained in Siaya and his mother lives in Kakamega town, who has been reported to be s a drunkard as she spends most of her time in chang'aa dens in the area.

Otieno passed well.

However, it took the efforts of Joshua's teachers to see him sit for his KCPE exams and also took care of him as his mother did not care.

Joshua had to trek for six nights from Siaya to Kakamega when the results were out, and when he narrated what had happened, it was crystal clear he couldn't join high school as he had no fees.

His story touched many when it was published by the Standard.

Joshua has now found a sponsor who has promised to pay his fees from form 1 to 4. The sponsor, according to Ndung'u Nyoro, is from the US and wants to remain anonymous.
