A family in South Kamagambo in Migori county is reeling in shock after an in-law took his life
The man had been arguing with his estranged wife and he decided to bestow gifts to her before committing the act
A 25-year-old Luo man took his own life on Wednesday, January 11, after a prolonged fight with his wife.
The man, Fredrick Otieno, had initially approached his in-laws for assistance to reconcile with his wife who had left him but every time, they turned him away. This was despite making promises to help the two of them.
South Kamagambo location chief John Mala said the wife’s family frustrated him up to the moment he decided to take his own life.

“He was always promised that his wife would be present when he came by but each time, they turned him away. When he missed her this time, he ended his life,” said Mala as quoted in the Star.
Apparently, as no one was in the compound- they had gone to look for his missing wife- he drank poison. In his final note which he wrote in the Luo language, he made sure to add his M-Pesa and SIM card pin numbers.
“Tell Awino that I say goodbye. I have left my phone with her mother, The PIN is similar to hers. She should bury me. Thank you for delivering this message,” read the note.
It was reported that he’d written the note while seated under a tree at his in-laws’ compound and wrote the message on his mobile and sent it to his uncle. The message also included information that explained his intention and where they could find his body. The body was taken to Rapcom mortuary in Awendo town as police launched investigations.
