The woman was said to have left her home on December 28, 2016 to drown herself in River Benue and sadly, her body was discovered on January 2, 2017 by police. When she was leaving the house on the said day before her alleged death, she was said to have asked for forgiveness from her two children. She also sent the children to plead with their dad on her behalf to forgive her.

According to the deceased’s neighbors at Vandeikiya street, High level in Makurdi, she had borrowed about N400,000.00 from different micro finance banks and invested it in MMM only for the scheme to announce a freeze on cashing out a few days after her investment.

“What we gathered is that she had borrowed money from four different places and invested in MMM but shortly after MMM suspended payment to subscribers, she withdrew to her shell,” one of the neighbors said.

Samson David, the deceased’s widower confirmed that he was aware that his wife took loans, but he could not confirm if she actually invested it in MMM.

“My wife was into petty trading, and she had been collecting this soft loans to boost her business. Anytime she collected, she paid back and in most cases I was her guarantor.

Towards November and December, 2016, I discovered she took loan from four places over N400,000.00, but I don’t know what she actually did with the money because this time there was nothing in the shop to suggest that she invested the money into her business but truly she took loans”.

UPDATE:

Gloria's husband Samson, said of his wife's disappearance and subsequent death:

Tracing her became difficult and I had to return home around 11 p.m of that fateful day. The only thing I could do was to call my younger brother and brother in-law informing them of the sudden disappearance of my wife.

He went to the police station the next day to report the disappearance of his wife, "From there, I was asked to make a statement and drop my phone number, but alas, I did not hear from them again."

He found out about his wife's death through a neighbour who heard from a policewoman that a woman had drowned at River Benue:

As soon as the woman came to my house that Tuesday morning and informed me of the police finding, I became perplexed and hurriedly went to toilet before we departed to ‘A Division’ at Wadata Area, where the picture of the drowned woman whom I later identified as my wife was given to me. In fact, I did not know what became of me; I just began to shiver.”

Speaking on the kind of person his late wife was, Samson said she was very caring and wouldn't hurt anybody:

"This is someone who could not hurt herself. In fact, she would not want razor moved near her body."

He said her death must have been as a result of a spiritual attack instead of because of MMM. He said:

In fact, she could not go to church on Christmas Day, but I took my children and we went to church. The following day she also complained of pile and I decided to get her traditional medicine which she declined, saying until after she completed her medicine.

This was the situation until that day when my son, Wisdom, called me that his mother had left home for long and had not returned. I asked her what the problem was, but she only told me that she was sick and we went to hospital where she was diagnosed with typhoid and malaria. She was placed on medicine regimen and this was the situation till Christmas Day."

The state police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu confirmed that the police actually recovered the body of a woman from River Benue. She was committed to mother earth on Friday, January 20, at the Ankpa ward public cemetery.
