29-year-old Nigel Sylvester is a professional BMX rider that made it into the Forbes Top 30 under 30.
What makes Nigel unique is that he doesn’t compete and paved his path to fame through social media with hundreds of thousands of fans across Youtube and Instagram.
He said that ever since he was a young boy he dreamed of becoming a BMX rider. His parents thought that he should have went to college and pursued a more traditional career.
Nigel stated: “My parents are both from Granada, so most of the time Grenadian parents are very strict. It's a very strict culture, very rigid. You go to school, graduate, get a job, and have a family. When I did become vocal about wanting to become a pro BMX rider, my parents weren't understanding it all.”
In addition he faced some peer pressure because when he started riding BMX culture was not very popular in the black community, and many ridiculed his ‘white boy’ hobby and style.
However he managed to prove everybody absolutely wrong with his more than successful career.
Nigel’s shocking popularity landed him several sponsorships, which include Nike, G-Shock and Beats by Dre. In addition Nigel has his own brand of clothing called Go.
