The body of a 13-year-old girl was found downriver from Tembisa, Ivory Park in Guateng South Africa. Searches for her have continued for days after she didn’t come home on Monday night.
The body of little Ndivho Malatsi was found by rescuers in East Rand and they believe that she fell into the water and drowned during the flash floods that occurred after very heavy rainfalls.
The police report indicates that she was crossing a stream when she was swept over or fell into the river and her body was taken away by the powerful current.
Her mother, Ntombi Stungu, stated: “We searched for her until 11pm, but we couldn’t find her. We resumed the search in the early hours of Tuesday morning. We checked around the pipes and the only thing I found was a shoe.”
She adds: “When I found out that she didn’t come back from school, I sent my son to go check at the school.”
The mother believes that the main cause of her daughter’s death was the poorly covered drainage systems, which, if not treated, might take the lives of more children in the future.
