The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Aminat Adunola Okiribiti, a female herbalist, in Oyo state on Thursday, March 30, for defrauding a person to the tune of N45m on claims of providing spiritual and herbal healing.

EFCC operatives nabbed the female herbalist for falsely obtaining the N45m from the victim while pretending to offer herbal and spiritual healing in turn.

Ayo Oyewole, the head of public affairs in the zone revealed that the Okiribiti, the suspect did not work alone as she had three other accomplices that are yet to be found. Her husband, 47-year-old Wande Sesan Okiribiti, was said to be one of the three people working with her.

The 34-year-old female herbalist had taken an advance fee from the victim while promising to proffer spiritual help and solutions to all her problems. The victim narrated her ordeal in order to warn the public so they do not fall into the wrong hands.

Aminat confessed that some of the money collected from the victim was collected by her through her bank account in one of the banks in Ibadan.

The victim whose identity is being protected said she met Wande, the female herbalist’s husband, sometime in October 2014 at Utako in Abuja when she was in search of some cure for the health challenges of her children.

Wande had posed to be a local herb hawker and a spiritualist who knew the pros and cons of herbal medicine. He made her believe he was capable of curing her children and she started paying up until the sum amounted to N45m.

The victim however, became conscious of the scheme when the request for fund transfers did not stop. She filed a petition to the commission and they picked it up from there.

NAIJ.com is shocked to know that people could be this mean; they took advantage of the poor woman who was just a concerned mother finding solution to her children’ ailment.

Investigations are still ongoing as Amina would be charged to the court as soon as they are done with their findings.
