- Two shocking videos from Saudi Arabia have emerged
- They reveal how a high school guard herds girls back in with a cane
- He also shows them a snake in order to deter them from going outside before their guardians arrive
Two separate videos showing the treatment a high school guard from Saudi Arabia gives its female pupils are breaking internet, with many outraged voices speaking out against the demeaning situation portrayed in the clips.
The girls, completely covered up in niqabs, or full-face veils, try to exit the Riyadh school, by going down a set of stairs, but the man sends them back, through two deterring measures: on one hand, he uses a long cane to literally “herd” them in again, just like pastors drive cows or sheep; and he also shows them a snake in order to pull them away from the exit.
The man repeatedly strikes the stairs’ hand rail in a menacing way, and the girls hurry in again.
The videos were posted on Twitter by a woman who goes by the name of Moudhi, who in turn took it from an account called Remavvi, which has now been deleted from the social media outlet.
Moudhi, a Saudi feminist and law graduate, now living in the U.S., comments that “a high school guard's only duty is to make sure women are caged until their guardians or drivers come. Every girl in high school and college has a man outside ‘protecting’ them. Preventing them from leaving with unrelated men.”
Moudhu recounts how, as a teenager, she used to rebel against those rules, and frequently took her veil off as soon as she got into the car. "This usually p***** off the guard and he used to report me,” she adds.
Social media is filling with thousands of views, posts, retweets, reposts and comments on both videos. “Where are the human rights in Saudi Arabia .. why no one reported that ??” one Twitter user posted. Another one commented “This is what people are defending when they argue in support of the burkha and all that comes with it.”
