An eight-year-old Bangladesh boy is making a miraculous recovery from a rare and painful condition that was turning his body into stone-like hardness.

Mehdi Hassan earlier this year before his amazing recovery

Mehdi Hassan suffers from Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis, a rare skin ailment that has no cure and affects only about 200,000 to 300,000 people worldwide.

He first emerged in the international limelight earlier this year when pictures of him surfaced online. At the time, the condition had affected him much more severely compared to now.

Mehdi's condition has greatly improved

Mehdi's condition caught the attention of a local charity organization, which sponsored his treatment and medication at the Dhaka Medical College.

His mother, Jahanara Begum, spoke to local reporters and said: "After the news broke, some people from a charity approached us for his treatment and got my son admitted to the hospital. It feels wonderful to see him without those rashes and blisters."

Mehdi's recovery is remarkable because there is no known cure for his disease and medication only reduces the pain and symptoms. He can now play with his hands and perform other tasks such as eating using his hands.

His mother also hopes that other children and the community will accept him so that he can end his reclusiveness and live like a normal child.
