Father of late NYSC member, Ifedolapo, sues FG for her death

Following the death of his daughter Ifedolapo Oladepo during her NYSC orientation in Kano state, NAIJ.com gathered that the deceased's father has sued the Federal Government.

Ifedolapo Rachael Oladepo, reportedly died after a brief illness while at the Kano state National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in January 2017.

Several months later, her father, Mr Wale Oladepo, who earlier reached out to the Federal Government for help in investigating the cause of his daughter's death, has decided to sue them.

The retired civil servant Mr. Wale Oladepo, had granted an interview where he accused the management of the NYSC of making plans to prevent his daughter from getting justice. He also said the NYSC was ignoring a report by the preliminary investigative panel concerning his daughter's death.

Mr Oladepo has now taken his case to the Federal High Court, suing the FG and asking for N100m in damages for the death of his daughter who was a first class student of Transport Management from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo state.

Mr Oladepo's counsel, Mr Wale Afolabi, a former Attorney General and Osun state commissioner for justice, has asked the court to grant the plaintiff's request, as damages for the emotional trauma the deceased's family has had to go through.

The plaintiff also sued the NYSC director general, brig.gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the attorney general of the federation and the minister of justice.

Here's the statement filed by the deceased's father:

"A declaration that the officers of the first defendant (NYSC Director-General) breached their duty to the late Ifedolapo Rachael Oladepo, daughter of the plaintiff, by their failure to give proper medical attention and proper medication to the deceased, which culminated in her worsened state of health and eventual death on November 29, 2016.

A declaration that officers of the 1st defendants breached in their duty to the late Ifedolapo Rachael Oladepo by their failure to refer the deceased to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital when the adequate facilities to cater for the deceased’s health condition were not available at the NYSC Kano Orientation Camp Clinic.
