- An airport employee has been captured on camera demanding a bribe from a tourist
- The employee brazenly asked for KSh 5,000 (N15,000) before scaling the amount down to KSh 2,000 (N6,000)
It seems the cancer of corruption has permeated every echelon of our society including our airports.
NAIJ.com came across a recent video which has emerged online, showing a Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) staff demanding bribe from a tourist after confiscating her passport.
The KAA employee said to be from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport branch, had demanded for a KSh 5,000 (N15,000) bribe but the woman and another man thought to be a broker complained saying the amount was too high.
As negotiations continued, the broker said the woman could only afford KSh 1,500 (about N4,500) but the airport employee insisted on KSh 2,000 (about N6,000).
The tourist agreed to pay the money, but on the condition that she got her passport first.
"I do not want you messing up with my passport..I want it," she said even as the KAA employee said he was taking details from the document. He however returned the passport.
The video angered a section of Kenyans, with some saying the KAA was aware of such cases but had turned a blind eye. See their reactions below:
The Authority confirmed the man was its employee and promised to follow up on the matter
