Man sentenced to death for renouncing Islam in Saudi Arabia

- A man identified as Ahmad Al Shamri has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia

- The young man in his 20s was said to have been arrested in 2014

- He uploaded a video where he renounced Islam and Prophet Mohammed

Ahmad Al Shamri, a man in his 20s, has been sentenced to death by Saudi Arabia for uploading a video where he renounced Islam and Prophet Mohammed.

Saudi authorities arrested the young man in 2014 and he was charged with atheism and blasphemy. The video he uploaded had men and women dancing.

Shamri comes from the town of Hafar al-Batin; he said he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he was being tried. His legal team said he was technically insane.

The stringent laws in the kingdom do not give the citizens the liberty to do some things. Turning one’s back on Islam can make one get punished by spending time in prison.

Amazingly, people from the country supported the punishment given to the man. An unnamed person shared his thoughts about the sentence.

If you're a lowkey atheist that's fine.

But once you talk in public and criticize God or religion, then you shall be punished.

However, another person had a harsh comment , "I wish there could be live streaming when you cut his head off."

This sentence has again put Saudi Arabia’s human rights track record under the spotlight. In 2015, about 153 people were executed for drug trafficking and murder.

Amnesty International, a human rights group said the number of people executed in Saudi Arabia two years ago turned out to be the highest for two decades.

The Islamic legal code in Saudi Arabia is strict and does not support armed robbery, rape, murder and drug trafficking. These crimes are punishable by death.
