- Non-identical twins Lucy and Maria have different skin colors
- Lucy is fair-skinned while Maria is dark-skinned
- Their mother is half-Jamaican while their father is white
Meet the one pair of twins nobody would have any problems telling apart—Lucy and Maria Aylmer.
Lucy is fair-skinned, has ginger straight hair and blue eyes, while Maria is dark-skinned with curly dark hair and brown eyes.
The 20-year-old twins, who are from Gloucester in the UK, are so different because they are of mixed race parentage—their mother Donna is half-Jamaican while their father Vince is white.
They say their mother was so shocked when she gave birth to them because scans did not show that they had different skin colors.
In an interview, Lucy said: "It was such a shock for her because things like skin colour don’t show up on scans before birth. So she had no idea that we were so different. When the midwife handed us both to her she was just speechless."
Lucy added: "No one ever believes we are twins. Even when we dress alike, we still don’t look like sisters, let alone twins. Friends have even made us produce our birth certificates to prove it."
Their differences go beyond the skin color. While Maria is outgoing, Lucy is more reserved. Maria studies law while Lucy studies art and design.
However, their adoration for each other is evident when one watches their interview.
It is heartwarming that their bonds as sisters are strong despite such differences—they are twin sisters after all!
