- Abdul Mannan has his God to thank after being hit by cow that fell from the roof
- He suffered fracture on his left leg, cracks in his rib and wounds on the back of his head
- The calf had fallen from a terrace of a nearby four-storey building
A 43-year-old man from Kolkata, West Bengal, has only his God to thank after 85kg cow fell on him from the sky.
Abdul Mannan had gone to fetch some vegetables from a roadside shop when the unusually heavy load hit him from the terrace of a nearby four-storey building. The six-month-old calf reportedly died on the spot.
Though Mannan survived the strange accident, he suffered serious fracture on his left leg and several injuries all over his body.
Sources privy to the bizarre accident say Mannan collapsed and went unconscious and could barely tell what had hit him.
He was rushed to a nearby private nursing facility for urgent medical attention, from where he was transferred to a public hospital for further treatment.
It is being alleged that the poor calf had been held captive by one of the tenants of the four-storey building from which it fell.
“The cow grew restless, torn the rope it was tied with, jumped over a three- feet wall and fell directly on top of Mannan,” says one of the witnesses.
Anjum Alam , the owner of the building where the cow was being kept, told local news outlets that one of his tenants, who had vacated but still had keys, smuggled the animal into the building without their knowledge.
“It is unfortunate that Mannan was standing right where the calf fell. We are trying to track down the tenant,” says Alam.
Doctors have suggested that Mannan should not do any work for at least one week for him to recover. But since he is the breadwinner, his family could be facing tough times ahead.
