NAIJ.com came across pictures of an incident involving a car which fell into a large construction hole, somewhere in Owerri, Imo state.
A lucky driver managed to escape with his life when he was faced with a 'surprise incident' which could have killed him.
The unsuspecting driver drove straight into what appears to be an uncovered manhole, which was left by construction workers.
According to eyewitnesses, there was no caution sign to warn motorists of the danger lying ahead of them on the road.
The incident occurred around Wetheral roundabout in Owerri, Imo state, around 10pm on Tuesday, May 9.
The post was shared on Facebook by one IfeanyiCy Njoku, who wrote:
"In spite of all entreaties made on both print, electronic and social media to the contractor handling the Bank Road expansion, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, no effort was made to put up a #Caution_sign by the manhole on the expanded road near the Union Bank by the Wetheral roundabout.
Playing out the envisaged fear, an unsuspecting driver of a red Passat Wagon car at about, 10:30 yesterday, Tuesday night plunged into the manhole while racing down towards the roundabout from the bank road.
Methink the contractor here has some questions to answer, as the contractor handling the road project throws caution to the wind."
