10-year-old son of late 45-year-old bricklayer, Sina Adewuyi, who was tortured to death by the Nigerian police, has come out to narrate how his father was gruesomely murdered.
NAIJ.com gathered that the boy identified as, Jonathan Adewuyi revealed that his father was killed around No 4, Itoki road, Lagos, second to the last weekend of April.
According to Daily Trust newspaper, Adewuyi disclosed that he hopes justice prevails over those that killed his father. He added that the incident took place around 3 pm to 4 pm on that Saturday when a team of policemen came to extort money from his master, who was a spare parts dealer.
The boy said: “I want people to understand my pain. For me, it is really hard to hold back tears. When I saw the lifeless body of my dad, I felt really bad. That’s why I asked for justice. Our shop is in the same compound where we live. My oga’s name is Dona OK. When the policemen arrived, my oga told them he had no money on him but they insisted that they must go with something because he used to give them money before. When my father came out from the house, he saw the policemen. He was curious to know what happened that police came to our compound. But they shouted at him and demanded to know what he was waiting for. He told them he lived in the compound. They started to beat him for having the gut to respond. He tried to run away from them, but they chased him. They hit him with their guns. They forced him into their vehicle. They bundled him into the vehicle and took him away. He did not return till about 10.00 p.m. He was in pains and with marks of brutality on his body. He complained of headache and chest pain. We bought pain killers for him; he drank it but vomited it. My mother said we would take him to the hospital in the morning since it was already late. He died around 5.00a.m, on Sunday.”
The little boy further explained that, when his father died the family rushed to Sango Ota police command, Ogun state to report the incident but they were advised to go to Agbado Ayinla police division.
Adewuyi said: “The matter was reported at the Agbado Ayinla Police Station, some policemen came to our house, took photograph of my late father before he was taken to the mortuary for autopsy. They said we should come back to the station on Monday. I went with the family members of my father. They brought so many policemen for identification parade. I was able to identify two among the policemen that took my father away after beating him.”
However, the area commander of the Sango Ota police division, Adegoke Fayoade, who is also an Assistant Commander of Police (ACP), confirmed this report adding that, the case is under investigation.
