- Photos of baby born with white hair gets unexpected attention online
- Some think the photos are photo-shopped because of the rare look
- Others have likened the toddler to Daenerys in Game of Thrones
- Doctors believe the baby is extra special and here is why
Photos of a baby born with completely white hair have surfaced online and people can’t just get enough of them.
The photos were posted by the baby’s 27-year-old mom, Ms Jessica Smith, from Mississippi, who was also reportedly stunned when her toddler, named Deyina Smith, was born.
“To be honest I never expected my baby will be born with white hair. I didn’t know how she looked until she arrived,” says Ms Smith, who is now mother of three.
Ms Smith admits she has seen babies with blond hairs before, but had never seen one with white hair like her baby’s. It was a huge surprise.
She took and posted several photos of the very special newborn online to see how people would react to her unique hair. Then the internet exploded.
Within a short time, the photos had been viewed over thousand times. Comments were also coming in quick successions.
“It was simply overwhelming. It was abit hard to believe just how much attention the photos were getting online. Some people even thought I had photo-shopped them, which is not true,” says Ms Smith.
Others immediately likened the little Deyina to Daenerys, an extraordinarily beautiful female character with white hair and unique eyes, in a popular TV series called Game of Thrones.
To those who think the photos were faked, doctors have an explanation as to why the baby was born with white silvery locks.
“The medics said the baby’s unusual hair was due to a condition known as 'partial albinism'. This, they said, is normally brought about by lack of some sort of pigment in the hair,” says Ms Smith.
Experts say the extremely rare genetic condition affects five in every 100,000 people in Europe and the United States. This makes Deyina an extra baby.
"My nine-year-old eldest child is thrilled and simply can’t get over his baby sister’s white hair, just like the rest of us,” says Ms Smith.
Despite the baby’s condition, doctors say she is in perfect health, except she needs regular check up on her eyes.
