Sales girl allegedly steals N554m from her employer in Lagos

Legit.ng gathered that a sales girl at one of the Shoprite stores in Lagos, was arrested for allegedly stealing over N500 million from her employer.

The suspect identified as Mariam Mufutau was arraigned at the Igbosere magistrate court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a total of N553,956,000, within one month of working at the store.

According to Dailypost.ng, Mufutau was arrested after the management of the Eti-Osa branch reported the case at the Ilasan police station. They had audited their accounts only to discover that amount was missing.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Onyinye Onwuamaegbu, ordered that Mufutau should be detained. She was eventually arraigned in court on two counts of felony to wit and stealing.

Mufutau was said to have stolen the huge amount between April 1 and May 31, 2017, during work hours, using a POS machine which she kept instead of turning the money over to her employer's account.

Mufutau pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and was granted bail by the presiding judge, Magistrate O.O Owunmi, to the tune of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She has been taken to Kirikiri pending when her case will be heard on July 28.
