On Friday, August 11, the protest against the chancellor of Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Samuel Sogunro and his management team could no longer stomach the bad leadership.
Members of Academics Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) Chapters, have been protesting since Monday, August 7.
It appeared that they could not reach an agreement over the weekend, so they decided to set up fire to fry bean cakes (akara) in front of the Library Complex which also house the administrative and the Chancellor’s offices.
According to them, the significance of the bean cakes is to celebrate the exit of Sogunro as the Chancellor of the institution.
They said: “We mourn the bad leadership of Sogunro and the negative history he has brought to LASPOTECH with Akara Elepo. May we never experience this kind of misnomer in LASPOTECH again.”
