Imo state polytechnic student steals N19m car, sold it for N300,000 to take care of his girlfriend (photo)

Two Imo state Polytechnic students, 26-year-old Johnson Ashiegbu and 34-year-old, Chinonso Ewurum, have been arrested by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad for allegedly stealing two vehicles.

The suspects were reported to have sold the vehicle to one Nnamdi Ejinkeonye for N300,000 in Onitsha. The other vehicle which is a Toyota Camry, was stolen by the suspects in the Imo Housing Estate axis of Owerri, where it was parked.

The Toyota Camry which was valued at N3.9 million was sold at N350,000. One of the suspects disclosed that he used the money to sort out some school results and the rest to take care of his girlfriend.

He said: “My desire to sort out my results in school led me into crime. After arranging my results in school, I used the remaining money to live a good life and to take care of my girlfriend.”

It was further revealed that he first got N30,000 from the sale of the Hilux van owned by the government and the N285,000 from the Toyota Camry. He said that his younger brother was paid N15,000 for bringing Ejinkeonye, who bought the vehicle.

However, a police officer disclosed that the identity card of the undergraduate and the master key used in stealing vehicles were recovered as exhibits.
