Some church members have been reported to have locked their pastor out of the premises over alleged embezzlement of funds, improper behavior and abuse of pulpit.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the angry members of the Ajegunle Baptist Church, Ibadan, Oyo state, are insisting that their pastor, Reverend Oyewole Oyekan, vacates the premises.

Speaking on behalf of the church members, Mr Sangolade Olufemi disclosed that: “Our pastor has turned himself to the treasurer and financial secretary of the church, whereas we employed him. He spends our money single handedly without getting clearance from the financial secretary or church council. He cornered the account of the school for five years. When the school account had problem, he started banking the school’s money in his personal account to the tune of over N4m. Even the church executive does not know the actual amount with him.”

He further revealed that the pastor has been in charge for 15 years but this act of the man of God began about three years ago. Due to this he was reported to the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

In December 20, 2016, the overall church’s body confirmed the misappropriation of funds but noted that there has been no sign of embezzlement. They also disclosed that the pastor should no longer be in possession of the money but should allow the finance officers do their job.
