Zimbabwe first lady allegedly plans to sue businessman over N435m diamond ring deal

Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe is allegedly suing a Lebanese businessman for $1.2 million (N435 million) over a diamond ring deal that went sour in 2016.

According to reports, Mugabe approached Mr Ahmed in April, 2016 and ordered a 100-carat ring worth approximately $1,350,000 (N490m) for her wedding anniversary.

It was gathered that the first lady allegedly paid for the ring in advance through her CBZ Bank account.

However, in what she called a breach of the agreement Ahmed failed to deliver the ring which resulted in a nasty legal dispute.

According to more reports, Ahmed agreed to refund the first lady but only paid her $120,000 (N43,560,000), far short of the original $1,350,000 (N490 million). Due to this Mugabe is planning to sue the businessman.

She also seeks an order allowing her to attach the businessman's immovable properties in Avondale and Vainona, Harare, if he fails to settle the debt.
