Olympian stripped after rat poison was found in his system

A Kyrgyzstan athlete Izzat Artykov has been stripped off his gold medal for high intake of drugs at the ongoing Rio Olympics 2016, in Brazil. He has become the first Rio medalist to test positive to banned substance.

According to Viviangist, the substance detected in his body is strychnine, is a highly toxic alkaloid which is used as a pesticide. When ingested, strychnine causes muscular convulsions before death through asphyxia. Those convulsions are said to be useful in tiny doses in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was used as an athletic performance enhancer.
