We are very familiar with celebrity marriages and their attendant issues, but often, love is a force so strong hardly anyone really knows when and how it sweeps you off your feet, celebrities inclusive.
On Tuesday, August 23, 2016, unconfirmed reports made the rounds that Nollywood star Funke Akindele had gotten into a secret marriage with singer Abdul ‘JJC’ Rasheed Bello in London.
While we are yet to confirm this story, it should interest you to know that Akindele was previously married to Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, a property developer based in Lagos.
Oloyede is the son of the former Iyaloja of Oshodi and the marriage crashed after just one year.

The speculations of this new union however started after the actress posted short videos on her social media accounts on her birthday and two elegant rings were spotted on her finger.
It’s been one of the biggest stories all week as far as local entertainment is concerned and it is understandable why.
Recall that in May 2016, similar reports made the round as per both stars allegedly secretly getting married, but they didn’t make any statement confirming nor refuting the speculations.
But with tell-tale signs surrounding her 39 birthday celebration this August, it is easy to see why the media has been replete with speculations of their marriage.
And to be frank, it could all be real as we have seen.
First, there are photos from snap chat clips that very obviously show her wedding rings.
Then there is the inexplicable excitement with which she’s celebrated her birthday this year, not like it’s not worth it but the hype has been major.
Lastly, looking at her alleged husband’s message to her on Instagram on August 23, 2016; there’s yet another reason to believe this is for real.
He messaged her on the big day saying:
“Happy birthday @funkejenifaakindele aka FAB. Many happy returns. May all your days be filled with love, and happiness. You’ll find peace in your home, work, body, mind and soul. You’ll never lack. Health and wealth is your potion. Long life and prosperity. Stay blessed my best friend.”
Now, while this doesn’t look like anything unusual given their romantic affair, sources have broken down the ‘FAB’ acronym to mean Funke Akindele-Bello and it fits perfectly.
It is also important to add that the pair became reportedly engaged in February 2016 following several months of a successful affair.
All of this remains unconfirmed.
But what’s really important here is the fact that celeb marriages have always been troubled because more often than not there’s a certain unusual influence the media has over those involved.
It is so bad even Jay Z and Beyonce in all their ‘royalty’ have had to contend with issues stemming from this time and again.
And they are not alone, the issues of media influencing celeb marriages negatively, among other things, have been the situation for years.
Mary J. Blige got into a marriage with Martin Isaacs in 2003 but the pair eventually split in July 2016.
Hip hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has reportedly split with model and singer Cassie. They ended things in August 2016 after Cassie told the rapper she wanted out of the affair.
There was also the case between Amber Head and Johnny Depp, Jhene Aiko and Oladipo ‘Dot da Genius’ Omishore, Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart, Apryl Jones and Omarion, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris as well as Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik who all split in 2016.
In the local industry, we remember the likes of Doris Simeon and Daniel Ademinokan, Shina Peters and Clarion Chukwura and most recently Tiwa Savage and Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun which took every one by storm in April, 2016.
This is the reality. Not to say there’s anything wrong with two stars coming together in a union but often there are issues too big for them to deal with that they resolve to split up at the end of the day.
There are ego issues, media troubles, public scrutiny and finances among other things. It is what it is.
Celebrity affairs and the media are sort of like tongue and teeth put together seeing as they always clash and bleed. But in the end, each can do nothing without the other.
Why this is not a piece advocating that popular people or entertainers do not get into a marriage or relationship and make it work, we are simply saying it takes a lot more work.
Every couple has issues but where the ordinary marriage requires a lot of efforts to work things out in marriages, celebs need to work twice as hard to maintain same relationships.
But as they say, to each man his own. We wish Akindele and Bello the best as they journey through to the next level together.
