In Kenya, a woman identified as Halleluya Amta disclosed that she was harassed and beaten by other fellow church members, a Catholic church in Kwale County, for indecent dressing on Sunday, August 28.
According to Standard (Kenyan newspaper), Amta revealed that she was harassed by the church attendants two men and one woman, at Saint Joseph, Ukunda Catholic church saying: “I came to this church on Sunday with this dress and while being frisked I was pushed, abused and beaten.”
Amta claimed was dressed in a tight black trouser which she had covered with a long dress and was carrying a handbag and an umbrella. To her surprise, she was barred from entering the church with the ushers saying she was dressed inappropriately.

Amta stated that she lost Sh50, 000 in the commotion and has since reported the matter under OB 20/28/08/2016. However, Nimos Baraza a friend of Amta said he had accompanied her to the church and witnessed the alleged harassment.
Baraza said: “I had accompanied her to the Catholic church. They almost wrestled her. I told her to let us go back and we left because I was very annoyed. It's some old people of the church who make themselves security personnel and I don't think they are even Christians.”
